A media wall using modern textured panels and a colour scheme aligned with the existing room palette, making it the focal point of the space.
The initial request was an end to end wall mounted row of cabinets to house AV equipment and streaming devices, as the existing setup was cluttered and lacked any real practical storage.
The client wanted something with a ‘wow factor’ that would be the focal point of the room.
The design was collaborative from the beginning, with the client providing a generated image of what they wanted to achieve. This influenced the direction of the initial design which was refined for balance and to account for material constraints. Material samples were shared early on so the client had time to consider and choose preferred colour and textures.
The lower run of cabinets was designed to be hung from the wall leaving space below for LED lighting to enhance the floating effect.
Due to length constraints of material used for the top, one continuous surface wasn't possible, rather than make it in two pieces a decorative panel was added to the end to terminate the top cleanly. It was created using the same panels as the rest of the furniture for a cohesive result, achieving this presented its own issues due to machine limitations used for manufacture, after some careful consideration a solution was found.
The width of the wall required adapting the design to be able to use standard sized materials to avoid a visible joint on the top surface. The design, dimensions and fabrication of the side decorative panel and upper cabinet were meticulously adjusted to obtain a seamless and balanced result. The decorative panel, specifically, required additional hand held machining to build and assemble - a solution unavailable from most commercial fitted furniture companies. LEDs recessed into the side of the decorative panel and cabinet provide further lighting options.
Handle-free fronts with a push-to-open mechanism leave the whole run uninterrupted and minimal.
The palette was chosen to feel refined and contrasting:
